Banko Taratu / Ethiopia washed

Banko Taratu is a community in the Gedeb district, located in the Gedeo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) . This area is at the southern end of the famous Yirgacheffe coffee area, close to the Guji Zone. They control processing for over 500 farmers and employ 130 staff.During harvest, the site employs a substantial team of 190 staff members to manage the day-to-day processing. The site is managed by a team of brothers, Seleshi and Degafe Beyene, who oversee cherry collection from all contributing growers 

The beans are grown at 1,900–2,300 meters in Ethiopia’s Yirgacheffe area, . In the Washed Process, hand-picked cherries are pulped to remove the outer skin, and the beans are then fermented in clean, temperature-controlled tanks to remove the mucilage.

Following fermentation, the beans are thoroughly washed and transferred to raised drying beds, where they dry slowly for 12-18 days until the moisture content reaches preferred amount. Regular monitoring ensures consistency, while final sorting and grading maintain strict quality standards.
